Shopify B2B Store & Product Configurator

The Challenge

Refloactive has been manufacturing certified reflective products since 2008, entirely in the EU. Agencies and brands order promotional and safety products with custom printing. Soft hangers, snap bands, safety vests, beanies, bike reflectors and much more.

The range is huge, and almost every product can be customized. That is exactly what made selling laborious. Every quote went through the sales team. Customers described by email what they needed, followed by queries and calculation. That cost time on both sides, for every single quote.

The Solution

We built a fully custom online store for Refloactive based on Shopify Hydrogen. At its core is a configurator that covers the entire product range. Customers put their product together themselves, see the price live and create their quote as a PDF right in the store, without waiting for the sales team.

Understand First, Then Explain

Reflective products are full of details. Foil types with different reflectivity and certification, print methods with their own strengths, material questions around sustainability. Before we could explain any of it, we had to understand it ourselves. This is where our outside view became an advantage. We asked the same questions customers would ask later.

Those questions turned into tools in the store. Small interactive 3D environments show, for example, how far a reflector is visible at night. Comparison tables put the foils side by side with certification, material properties and colors. Guided finders ask about the use case and lead directly to the right product, foil and print method. This way everyone finds the right solution, from cost-efficient promotional items to certified safety vests, from sustainable materials to the strongest reflectivity.

The Entire Range, One Configurator

30 product families can be configured, from soft hangers to certified safety vests. Each family has its own logic with up to twelve steps, from shape to foil colors, printing and packaging.

Customers pick their shape from hundreds of silhouettes, combine colors and upload their logo or finished print files. The preview shows the result instantly on the exact product shape. Anyone who needs a custom shape simply uploads an image. The configurator detects the outline automatically and turns it into a new shape.

The print preview runs entirely in the browser. Even large print files as PDFs up to 50 MB are placed there and clipped precisely to the silhouette. What the customer sees matches the later product.

From Design to Finished Quote

The price updates with every click. Volume discounts, print method, number of print colors and packaging all feed in live. Configurator, cart and quote PDF arrive at the same result, down to the cent.

Instead of a checkout, a quote wizard guides customers through the final steps. In the background, the system calculates cartons, weights and a shipping estimate for 30 countries. At the end, the customer receives the finished quote as a PDF by email, automatically generated in four languages. At the same time, a draft order is created in the Shopify backend for the sales team to work with directly.

The customer account holds every request with its configurations. Print files can be submitted later, and the quote PDFs are available for download at any time.

The store is built for B2B throughout. Companies register, get approved by Refloactive and then see their individual net prices with volume discounts.

Thousands of Files, One System

The invisible half of the project was data work. Product photos, print templates, shapes as vector graphics and price lists from Excel. Thousands of files that had to be named correctly, structured and brought into Shopify.

For this we designed a naming convention and data structure and built import pipelines that transfer price lists, packaging and logistics data into Shopify reproducibly. When a price list changes, the import runs again and the store calculates with the new prices. The product knowledge stays maintainable instead of being scattered across file folders.

Four Languages, Six Countries

The store runs in German, English, French and Polish across six country markets with three currencies. Refloactive maintains every text in the Shopify backend, no developer needed. For the translations we built our own AI-supported pipeline with a review step.

The Result

Refloactive's customers now create their quotes themselves, around the clock and without waiting. The sales team starts with a finished, qualified quote instead of a vague email. At launch, the feedback from the customers' purchasing teams was clear. They had never seen anything like it from any other supplier.
